- Born 25 September 1969 in Erbendorf, Kreis Tirschenreuth, Upper Palatinate, Bavaria, Germany.

- Primary School 1975 - 1979

- Secondary school Kepler Gymnasium Weiden (Upper Palatinate) 1979 - 1988

- Accepted into the scholarship Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes in 1989.

- Study of Biology at the Universität Regensburg starting 1989, Pre-Diploma 1991. Floristic studies in northern Bavaria 1990 - 1994.

- Study of Botany at the University of Natal/ Pietermaritzburg, Republic of South Africa, 1992, - concluded with the Bachelor of Science (H.) Botany in April 1993.

- Return to Regensburg 1993.

- Studies towards the PhD starting 1993 at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Institute of Systematic Botany about the family Loasaceae, funded by the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes until 1996).

- PhD obtained with a thesis entitled "Nasa and the conquest of South America" on 28 July 1997 (magna cum laude).

- since July 1999 manager of botconsult GmbH (Munich), a consulting company providing botanical expertise for commercial applications
